Wagamama Allergy Menu: What Can You Eat?
Got a Wagamama dish in mind? Check it against the allergens you avoid, or start with your allergy and see what you can order instead.
Soya makes the menu a bit harder to navigate
If soya is the allergen you're avoiding, there aren't many main-menu choices to work with. Just four dishes list none: lollipop prawn kushiyaki, spicy smashed cucumber, popcorn affogato and coconut reika ice cream. Plain rice, rice noodles, chillies and pickled ginger don't list it either.
Ramen's still on, just ask for the non-gluten menu
Grilled chicken, signature seafood and gochujang pork belly ramen all come in non-gluten versions. So do the raisukaree and firecracker curries and most of the donburi. Noodles, bao buns and gyoza are the ones to skip, because every one contains gluten.
Wagamama says "non-gluten" rather than "gluten-free" because it can't rule out cross-contact.
Donburi or gyoza on your mind? Check sesame first
Every donburi, rice bowl and gyoza lists sesame. If one of those was your first choice, you'll want to look elsewhere on the menu.
Nut allergy? The katsu sauce is the one to watch
No dish lists peanuts or tree nuts as an ingredient, but anything made with katsu curry sauce carries a may-contain nut warning. That covers chicken and yasai katsu curry, katsu udon, the katsu wrap, kare burosu ramen and extra curry sauce.
The warning also appears on both buldak dishes, the nasi goreng lunch box and four desserts.
Looking for a savoury dish without milk?
No savoury dish on the main menu lists milk. The only six that do are desserts, so save the extra checking for pudding.
A prawn-free choice isn't always what it looks like
The prawn dishes contain crustaceans, but the koko "prawn" crackers don't contain prawn at all. They're vegan, though they do contain sulphites and may contain gluten, sesame and soya.
Fish is the less obvious one. The grilled chicken ramen, tantanmen beef brisket ramen and chicken yaki udon all contain it, even though none of them is named after fish.
Ordering for a child? There are allergy swaps on the kids' menu
Mini yaki soba, cha han and ramen all come in gluten-free versions on rice noodles or rice. Wagamama also lists specific swaps: mini chicken ramen on rice noodles without egg, and mini yasai ramen without tofu for a soya allergy.
On kids' katsu, the sauce makes the difference. Katsu curry sauce contains mustard and may contain nuts, while the amai sauce has no nut warning. In the bento, the rice noodles, sticky rice, carrot, cucumber and sweetcorn list no allergens.
Don't forget to check your drink
Every coffee can be made with oat milk, which lists no allergens. Asahi contains gluten and the wines contain sulphites. The juices, lemonades, iced teas and matcha colada list none.
Bottled soft drinks, beers and cider aren't in Wagamama's allergen guide, so ask.
Got your shortlist? Take it to your server
You've narrowed down the menu. Now tell your server exactly what you're avoiding before you order, every visit. They'll check the current recipe with you and tell you whether your dish can be modified. If you're ordering for a child, tell them about their allergy too.
The simplest approach: arrive with a couple of dishes in mind, and let your server help you choose between them.
Questions
Does Wagamama have an allergy menu?
Yes. Wagamama lists the allergens for every dish on its UK and kids' menus, and for its own drinks, covering all 14. It also has a separate non-gluten menu you can ask for.
Is there a Wagamama allergy menu PDF?
No. Wagamama keeps its allergy menu online as an interactive guide rather than a PDF, and everything in it is on this page, dish by dish.
Is Wagamama gluten free?
Not quite, but ramen is still on. Wagamama calls it non-gluten rather than gluten-free because it can't rule out cross-contact. The non-gluten menu includes the grilled chicken, signature seafood and gochujang pork belly ramen, the raisukaree and firecracker curries, and most of the donburi.
Does Wagamama katsu curry contain nuts?
Nuts aren't an ingredient, but the katsu curry sauce may contain peanuts and tree nuts. That puts a may-contain warning on the katsu curries, katsu udon, the katsu wrap and kare burosu ramen. On the kids' menu, katsu with amai sauce has no nut warning.
What can I eat at Wagamama with a soya allergy?
Not much from the main dishes. Just four list no soya: lollipop prawn kushiyaki, spicy smashed cucumber, popcorn affogato and coconut reika ice cream. Plain rice, rice noodles, chillies and pickled ginger don't list it either.
Is Wagamama dairy free?
Almost, until dessert. No savoury dish on the main menu lists milk, and the only six that do are desserts. Every coffee can be made with oat milk, which lists no allergens.
What's in Wagamama prawn crackers?
No prawn. Wagamama's koko 'prawn' crackers are vegan. They contain sulphites and may contain gluten, sesame and soya.
Does Wagamama use sesame?
A lot. Every donburi, rice bowl and gyoza lists it, and so do most of the noodle dishes and curries.
Can Wagamama change a dish for my allergy?
Often, yes. Tell your server what you're avoiding before you order and they'll check what can be swapped. On the kids' menu the swaps are listed already, like mini chicken ramen on rice noodles without egg.
Is it the same in Northern Ireland?
Not quite. Wagamama's restaurants in Northern Ireland have their own allergen guide, so check that one if you're eating there. See the Northern Ireland guide.
